POWDER PAN...THE DEVILUTION OF A CYCLE

One of the coolest aspects of being a small part of the Paisano team is, in my mind, meeting and associating with the extremely talented and eccentric folks in the custom bike world.  it has been most interesting over many years to witness new talent entering the lifestyle.  They either get it and continue to succeed by managing the business first and engaging in their passion of the build after hours, or like many musicians, they have one-hit wonders and we never see their work again.

Easyriders Evens and John Green provide all builders a most viable opportunity to showcase their skills.  Case in point from the  Easyriders Bike Show in Columbus, Ohio comes Devilution Cycles and this impressive one-of-a-kind retro Panhead.

Devilution cycles is the home base of two brothers, Michael and Brian, and one very sweet young lady named Chasity.  You can find them at devilutioncycles.com, or back in the woods toward Newport, Michigan, at 734-322-3404.

This 1951 Pan experienced its last action at the infamous Bean Blossom Boogie in 1987.  Seems she and the owner just plain had way too much fun.  Twenty years later, after the depths of destruction at the Boogie, she found her way in many pieces into the capable hands of Michael and Brian.  Mike "Ollie" Gilmore, the bike's owner, only wanted some put back together work with a custom fender added.  Yeah, well that led to a complete rebuild of the motor, which led to the same with the tranny, and all that began to bring custom one-off parts into the mix.  Turns out the motor was more than dusted, so it was delivered to the most capable hands of Stevenson Cycles for a new lower end, with STD heads for a most solid upper.

Swap meet exploring over a few months brought into the build a King Sporty tank.  check out the ignition system in the front tank panel.  More Pan swap meet parts shopping resulted in two pan boxes welded together for the oil tank.  Mike brought a '67 Chevelle shift handle to be part of his bike's jockey shift system.

The mis of old part and the use of handmade ideas brings very sleek lines to this machine.  The very tasteful integration of powdercoating with the paint, pinstriping, polished cases and copper lubricant lines bring a warm scheme into the build and work well.

In addition, the 41 mm Wide Glide front end is the perfect choice to keep the machine's look retro. Although the guys at Devilution are some new kids on the block, I predict you will see much more from them.  Look for a very outstanding Flathead in an upcoming ER issue.  Certainly this kick start, jockey-shift 1951 Pan, reintroduced to the road after 20 years in baskets, provide grandeur to the magic of their abilities.

Devilution wants to pass along atta-boys to their team Exotic Coating, Gibb Striping, and Eby Customs.  To all those builders out there who keep fire breathing in Flatheads, Knucks, Pans and Shovels, much respect to all of you.

Ride damn hard and keep safe.
