GREG QUEENS - GETTING IT DONE
Life can dish out some pretty tough odds. Each of us discover in our own way who we are, what kind of grit we possess when it really gets trench fighting tough. The outstanding trike you see here is a very special piece built by a hero of sorts among us. You will like this man and find yourself cheering him on without meeting him. He is Greg Queen hailing from Lily, Kentucky...you can catch him at Queen’s Cycle 606-528-3937.
Greg was involved in a work accident and a severed spinal cord injury at 18 years of age. He grew up as a biker kid who’s Daddy had him on dirt bikes as soon as he could walk and Harley-Davidson's by age 15. Greg has never missed a lick with his injury. He has ridden since he could walk and keeps riding now that he cannot.
From a hospital bed in '93 he enrolled in the MMI at Daytona Beach to certify as an H-D mechanic in 94. By the following riding season he opened “Queen’s Cycle” The word handicapped is not part of his vocabulary and frankly, just being around Greg is inspiring, He is motivated, smiling all the time while an on the move with his life in a progressive direction. One needs to stay out of his way when you’re around him. Greg’s spirit is a tribute to his Daddy’s unwavering loyalty to his son. I can pass along, the two of them believe in each other like two Vets who have been in trenches together.
Queen messed around with a couple trikes and lots of motor work at his shop for years. He began to design parts for disabled riders and hand made parts for everything on two wheels.
There is no part of cycle assembly, fabrications, or design that Greg will not take on. As years went along, Greg wanted to put a machine on the street that did not look like it was customized for someone handicapped, so in 2006 this project took on life.
Take a good look at the incredible dedication to hand made parts that define the build. Just a few include the grips, bars, gas tank, foot boards, a remarkable job of canceled electronics, points cover, brackets everywhere, frame, axles, braking system, exhaust, point cover, molding, shift linkage, wheel chair carrier brackets, suspension brackets. All this attached to a massive TP 124 and with some humor, Greg says he would need to shoot me if he told me everything he did to
the motor. However, wheel stands are only a small roll on of the throttle to get her to stand up and salute.
During the middle of this project, Greg’s Momma passed on from that damn big C. As in everything else the man has accomplished in his life, he began to double his time with help from Dad to finish the trike on her birthday, September 14th. They did just that...two weeks later they brought her to the infamous Bean Blossom Biker Fest where Clean Dean and I had been partaking in some what of a relaxed mode around the bike show. When Greg rode her up we
took a look and then stared in awe at the fine craftsmanship. Then as we got to know the man from Lily, Kentucky, it became obvious BIKER readers need to meet him also.
A very seldom, almost never, once in a Biker Blue Moon we dish out an---atta
fucken-way-to-go Greg BIKER salutation.
Ride....damn it!!!
