TWIST-HER
Some folks think naming a scooter is down right stupid, others name every bike they ride or build. That is the case with "Steve-n-son's Cycle". Each machine is like the birth of a child to the Stevenson's crew.
"Twist-Her" in these circumstances seem to be the most appropriate name for both the bike and girl of any machines and women who have graced the BIKER pages in years. Twister-Her dawned herself to us in Houston, Texas at last years Easyriders Show where Squatter and I were doing some photography for the magazine and Lucas Motorcycle Oil at John Green's show. We had just finished setting up a booth for Lucas and I was journeying down the middle isle for an ice cold soda when Dave Nichols and I joined together directly in front of Stevenson's new masterpiece. Dave and I decided everything Broyles one and two had done on the Michigan produced Bobber was marvelous. We stood there gazing at her for some 15 minutes when Dave said, go ahead and shoot her. I responded with another idea. Debby and I had been photographing this Playboy chick for several other projects, why not toss her on the machine and pretty it up a bit more. Dave like that idea also. So, Squatter and I commenced to hooking all that up the next couple of weeks. Well, as things go a few months later our Playboy hoser was told by Playboy her contract would not allow her to shoot with us or any another magazine. After holding up the shoot for several months with the decision process, we moved to the proverbial Plan B and found Skyla. Those 18 year old hard belly chicks keep our biker world fresh with much enthusiasm. We commence to get Skyla to the studio and twist her into rewarding positions around Stevenson's artwork.
Skyla is indeed gorgeous, but have you examined this machine and the very spectacular creation it is? Just the motor work by itself is amazing...yes, it is an Evo. However, it is a one-of-a-kind Evo that exist no where else on this planet. Steve and Steve switch the heads from front to back reversing the flow of everything which means hand crafting and manipulating the heads, ports and push rod geometry. The machinery and welding, cutting and cussing required to get this work just right has to require a huge bag of patience with hundreds of hours. It deserves immense respect. If you're into motors the least bit you have to stare at this in amazement and wonder, how in the fuck did they do that? Check out the carburation and the tucking of the plumbing supply lines that are just perfect. Also, the lines created by the exhaust are unparalleled and provide more perfection in design to the coolest bobber this side of the North Pole. North Pole...could it be...magical work of demented Elf's?
If the motor work does not bring on a woody for ya, gander at the tranny. Another what in the fuck is this all about. It is five speed cases modified (everything on the machine is modified) for kicker only, with a Baker six speed gear set, for a four speed hydraulic clutch kicker cover. Now, you will not find that kind of tranny set up too often.
There are many very time consuming items that make up the fabric and artwork of this machine...very cool touch with the sissy bar which is more a fender strut and I know from hanging out with these guys what went into just the pin stripe on the front and rear wheel.
From motor mounts to handlebars to 41 mm wideglide front end every part is placed and manufactured to perfection. Most important to me, is it all works. It starts, and you can twist her right down he highway with safety in mind. She handles extremely well with torque and power and also has brakes, allowing the rider to slide to stops.
We pass these out seldom and reserve em for special shit...it's a Biker Mag atta-fucken-way-to-go to the Broyles, that's Steve and Steve or Steve-n-sons, for an absolute mythical job of quality work and engineering dedicated to the birth of "Twist-Her".
Not to be out done, the manufacturing and lines of Skyla's 18 year old bod got us twisted around the studio all day long. She is fabulous to be around and work with...most amazing in her agility. Skyla can jump off a table with her legs spread into a split position and land on the ground wide open. Yep!!! We saw her do that several times from more than six feet in the air. In fact the split position on the handlebars was generated from her cheerleading demonstrations. Her carburetors are not too bad either. Best of all, this young lady's ego is in the right place. Unquestionably, some rewarding circumstance that developed for us regarding this shoot was the Playboy chick canceling out.
